Olmsted Medical Center (OMC) is proud to announce that Karl Molenaar, MD, has joined OMC’s clinical staff to provide family medicine services to patients in the Wanamingo/Cannon Falls area of Southeastern Minnesota.
Molenaar, who since 2010 has been an emergency room physician for the Minnesota-based First Light Health System, began practicing family medicine in 1987 with his father in Cannon Falls. Together, these two physicians have provided 58 years of medical care to the Cannon Falls community.
OMC is proud to help extend this continuity of care. In 2013, OMC plans to lease a new facility Molenaar is building in Cannon Falls. This will be OMC’s newest and northernmost branch clinic, bringing to 11 the number of communities where an OMC clinic increases healthcare access, convenience, and choice for residents. The facility will be built to accommodate future growth and expansion of providers and services. OMC plans soon to begin recruitment of additional providers to the Wanamingo/Cannon Falls area, including at least one women’s health physician and at least one additional nurse practitioner or physician assistant, to expand healthcare options for patients. OMC also will rotate several specialty healthcare providers through the new clinic to bring area patients a comprehensive set of services and minimize patients’ travel time to other OMC locations.
Molenaar will begin seeing OMC patients full-time at the Wanamingo branch clinic in December 2012 (until that time, OMC will continue working with interim healthcare providers to help patients manage their needs). As the Cannon Falls clinic construction nears completion in 2013, Molenaar will begin splitting his clinical time between Wanamingo and Cannon Falls. The organization’s commitment to the Wanamingo community, where OMC has had a branch clinic since 1996, remains strong—and its work with Molenaar will help OMC continue to provide Wanamingo-area residents the exceptional, personal care they’ve come to expect from OMC.
A graduate of Cannon Falls High School, Gustavus Adolphus College, and the University of Minnesota, Molenaar completed his medical internship and residency at Hennepin County Medical Center’s department of family practice. He and his wife Cindy have two children.
