Hello everyone, sorry it has been several months since my last commissioners corner. We did set our preliminary levy at 6.6% increase over last years budget. We have until the end of the year to hopefully find some more options to lower this rate. We have 2 commissioners that have served our county for 12 years. Jason Majerus and Brad Anderson both have chosen to not run again in this election. I want to thank them for their service to Goodhue County. Minnesota counties are having to deal with mandates coming down from the state. The majority of these mandates are unfunded, meaning they passed a bill and are making us come up with the money to fund these. This is usually through property tax increases. The counties are regulated by the DOR the department of revenue, they set the guidelines for our property tax rates. We struggle with increasing rates knowing it is dollars out of the pockets of our citizens. Please get out and vote on November 3rd this is a very important election. Knowing the fraud that is happening in Minnesota, we need to elect the people that we feel will do something to help and change what has happened over the last several years.
