Lydia Goes to State

Kenyon Wanamingo junior Lydia Flotterud became the first K-W golfer to advance to state in Class AA finals in the 2024 Minnesota State High School League tournament this month. She placed 34th in the state in the final meet at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker Minnesota held on July 11th and 12th.

Lydia’s goals this season were to improve on her game, focusing on being more consistent, win the Gopher conference and get through sections and make it to state. She won the home meet in Kenyon and went on to win the first conference meet in Mankato.

The last conference meet of the season in Waseca came down to her and one other golfer, it was a competitive and exciting last 5 holes of back and forth and she ended up having to make a great up and down on 18 to win the conference by 1 stroke.

This was the first year of her dad as a coach along with Coach Weime, he was super helpful in moments of club selection and difficult lies. She focused on mental toughness and recovery shots and overall felt good about her improvement in her game.

Lydia has memories of the Pebble Creek course being a beautiful and challenging course and was really good fun competition. She scored an 87 on the first round on day one, chipping in for birdie on the last hole. She scored a 43 on round two on the second day. Unfortunately, there was a three-hour rain delay on the last day of the tournament, which shortened it down to nine holes instead of 18.
